Rhode Island Scenic Roadways

Veterans Memorial Boulevard in East Providence is one of the Rhode Island Scenic Roadways Board's early and important scenic roadway designations. It was designed in the early 20th century by the famous landscape achitecture firm of Frederick Law Olmstead and is now recognized for its flowing alignment as well as views to the Providence River and Providence skyline.

Bradford Associates' work with the RI Scenic Roadways Board started with guidelines for contextual roadway design followed by the seminal inventory of "Roadways with Scenic Character Suitable for Rhode Island Scenic Roadway". Work as technical consultant to the Rhode Island Scenic Roadways Board has included, graphics and signage, review of applications for scenic roadway designation and for construction on designated roadways as well as specific scenic roadway improvement projects such as the design for Veterans Memorial Parkway "gateways" and an overlook at Watchemocket Cove.
