Mondor Sculpture Garden

Mondor Sculpture Garden

McCoy Stadium, Rhode Island

Mondor Garden, a tribute to the much revered PawSox team owner Ben Mondor, is a sitting area and park like setting to display his collection of bronze statues of children playing baseball. The site is a conspicuous, public location on a principal walkway to the stadium main gates. As a long narrow sidewalk edge landscape strip, it was an improbable garden site. The idea of a garden and the small bronze statues was also in strong contrast with the large scale stadium structure. The design was challenging but the park like setting has been successful as both a distinctive and comfortable sitting area and a meaningful place that complements the fans enjoyment of the game and stadium visit.
